Paramount Pictures confirmed Tuesday it was in discussions with Gail Berman, president of entertainment for Fox Broadcasting, to join the film studio in a “senior creative role.”

Fox had no comment.

“We hope to conclude the discussion shortly,” Paramount Pictures said in a written statement. “She would be a great addition to the Paramount team,” the statement said of Ms. Berman.

Ms. Berman’s contract with Fox ends this summer, and the network was said to be in negotiations with her to stay. She joined the network five years ago and presided over the launch of reality hit “American Idol” and the network’s foray into the “52-week season.” Fox ranked No. 1 in the adults 18 to 49 ratings demographic for the recently completed February sweeps period.
