Fox Extends Winning Streak in Demo

For the first time ever, Fox has won the race for No. 1 in the adults 18 to 49 demographic for seven weeks in a row. For the week ended March 13, Fox’s music reality phenomenon “American Idol” helped keep the network in the top spot in the demo. But CBS took the week in total viewers.

The top spot for the week in adults 18 to 49 saw a tie between the Tuesday and Wednesday editions of “Idol,” with each night’s show scoring an 11.7, according to Nielsen Media Research. The “Idol” performances were followed by CBS’s “CSI” (10.4), a special Monday night “Idol” (10.1) and CBS’s “Survivor: Palau” (8.1).

In total viewers “CSI” took the top spot with 29.40 million. “Idol” took the next three spots — Tuesday’s edition (27.66 million), Wednesday’s edition (26.86 million) and the special Monday edition (23.91 million). CBS’s “Without a Trace” rounded out the top five with 23.32 million.

Fox won the week in adults 18 to 49 with a 4.8, followed by CBS (3.7), NBC (3.4), ABC (3.2), UPN (1.2) and The WB (1.1).

CBS was tops in total viewers with 12.53 million, followed by Fox (11.12 million), NBC (9.57 million), ABC (8.50 million), UPN (3.01 million) and The WB (2.58 million).
