Fox Wins Adults 18-49, CBS Takes Viewers

Fox’s “American Idol” continued its dominance into the week ended March 6, taking the top spot in the adults 18 to 49 demographic and total viewers, but CBS was able to win the week among viewers despite Fox’s win in the demo.

The Tuesday night “American Idol” was No. 1 for the week in adults 18 to 49 with an 11.0, according to Nielsen Media Research. Tuesday’s “Idol” drew 26.88 million viewers, the highest number of any show for the week.

In the demo, “Idol’s” Wednesday show scored a 10.3, while the special Monday show came in third with a 10.1. ABC’s “Oprah Winfrey Presents: Their Eyes Were Watching God” (8.6) and CBS’s “Survivor: Palau” (8.5) rounded out the top five.

In total viewers, CBS’s “CSI” took the No. 2 spot with 25.20 million, followed by “Oprah Winfrey Presents” with 24.59 million, “Idol” Wednesday” (24.29 million) and “Idol” Monday (23.58 million).

Fox won the week in the demo with a 4.4, followed by ABC (3.9), NBC and CBS (both 3.7), UPN (1.6) and The WB (1.2).

In total viewers CBS won the week with 11.69 million, followed by NBC (11.05 million), ABC (10.68 million), Fox (10.35 million), UPN (3.87 million) and The WB (3.09 million).
