Putting to rest persistent rumors that Larry King’s frequent fill-in, CNN Headline News star Nancy Grace, is just waiting in the wings for CNN to shoo Mr. King and “Larry King Live” off the stage, a report Wednesday said Mr. King has extended his contract through 2009.

Wendy Walker Whitworth, the executive producer of “Larry King Live” and “Nancy Grace,” also is said to have recently come to terms with CNN on a new contract.

The report in Variety estimated Mr. King’s new deal to be worth close to $7 million a year.

Mr. King joined CNN’s lineup in 1985 and was the last of CNN’s prime-time personalities to be beaten by Fox News Channel competition. However, “Larry King Live” showed 23 percent declines year to year in February.

A CNN spokeswoman declined to comment specifically on Mr. King’s new contract.
