Spike Ends WWE Talks

Spike TV has ended discussions with World Wrestling Entertainment and will not renew its Monday night “Raw” franchise, the network announced Thursday.

“After several months of negotiations, we have decided to end our discussions about extending our relationship with the WWE beyond September 2005,” read a statement released by Spike TV. “Moving forward, Spike TV will expand its investments in original programming and new acquisitions for its core audience.”

The WWE contract expires later this year. Along with the female-skewing “CSI,” the WWE is among Spike’s highest-rated programs. Comedy Central president Doug Herzog was recently named president of Spike TV and has been noncommittal about whether the franchise would continue on the network.
