TelevisionWeek Editors Promoted Gilbert, Grego Praised for Roles in Transition

Tom Gilbert has been promoted to executive editor and Melissa Grego to managing editor of TelevisionWeek, Editor Alex Ben Block and Publisher Chuck Ross announced last week.

“This is well-deserved recognition for the many contributions of these two professionals during the past two years as we made a successful transition to TelevisionWeek from Electronic Media,” Mr. Block said. “They have both provided strong newsroom leadership and set a high standard for the entire staff.”

“Tom and Melissa have played an important role in making TelevisionWeek the first read for anyone interested in broadcasting, cable and related industries,” Mr. Ross added. “We are all delighted that their extraordinary efforts, teamwork and creativity are being rewarded.”

Mr. Gilbert, who was previously managing editor, joined TVWeek (then Electronic Media) from the Los Angeles Times in April 2000.

“We have seen the remarkable development of TelevisionWeek as a potent TV business journal over the past few years and I am proud to have been a part of it,” Mr. Gilbert said. “I look forward to continuing to work with our top-notch team far into the future on an ever-improving publication.”

Before his stint at the L.A. Times, Mr. Gilbert spent 14 years at Variety in New York and Los Angeles, serving as senior editor of Daily Variety and managing editor of the weekly edition. Before that, he was a New York-based reporter and Broadway critic for The Hollywood Reporter, where he also served as managing editor based in Los Angeles.

Mr. Gilbert is a show business historian who has made numerous TV appearances as co-author with Coyne Steven Sanders of the book “Desilu: The Story of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz,” currently in its 15th printing.

Ms. Grego was formerly TVWeek‘s news editor, overseeing weekly news and feature coverage. “We have a great team of reporters and editors at TelevisionWeek,” Ms. Grego said. “They deserve a lot of the credit for the great success we have enjoyed. We have received an amazing response from the entire television community.”

Before joining TVWeek in April 2003, Ms. Grego was at the daily and weekly editions of Variety, where she covered network, cable, syndication and local television. Before that, the Detroit native and University of Michigan graduate covered syndicated television for Broadcasting & Cable and held posts at The Hollywood Reporter, Digital Home Entertainment magazine and U, The National College Magazine.

In addition, Ms. Grego has contributed articles to numerous consumer and trade publications, such as Broadcast U.K. She has also been a special correspondent for the television show “Extra” and has provided commentary for “Access Hollywood,” Bravo, Court TV, Fox News Channel, CNN, MSNBC and other TV outlets.
