A week after enduring major college basketball pre-emptions, syndicated strips in prime access mostly improved or were even for the week ended April 3, while the majority of daytime strips trended downward.

The two top shows in syndication, both access stalwarts, saw growth. King World’s “Wheel of Fortune” garnered a 9.3 national household rating, up 7 percent from the previous week and up 2 percent over the same week last year, according to Nielsen Media Research. King World’s “Jeopardy!” grew 5 percent for the week and 1 percent for the year to a 7.7.

The No. 1 newsmagazine, Paramount’s “Entertainment Tonight,” grew 11 percent over the previous week to a 5.1, but was down 2 percent for the year. King World’s “Inside Edition” was up 9 percent for the week and flat for the year with a 3.5.

Only two veteran daytime strips saw improvement: King World’s “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” which grew 11 percent for the week and 20 percent for the year to a 7.3; and Buena Vista’s “Live With Regis and Kelly,” which was up 6 percent for the week and even for the year with a 3.6.

All of the courtroom strips saw declines, including Paramount’s genre leader “Judge Judy,” which lost 6 percent from the previous week to settle at a 4.9. “Judy” was still up 2 percent over last year.

The top off-network strip was King World’s “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which hit a 6.8, up 6 percent over the previous week and up 24 percent over last year.
