CBS Wins Week in Viewers, Ties Fox for No.1 in Demo

CBS was the clear winner in the battle for total viewers for the week ended April 24, but in adults 18 to 49 the network tied Fox for the top spot in the demographic.

CBS’s forensic drama “CSI” was the top-rated show in total viewers, garnering 27.01 million, according to Nielsen Media Research. Fox’s Tuesday installment of “American Idol” came in second with 24.11 million viewers, followed by ABC’s Sunday night drama “Desperate Housewives” (23.85 million), Wednesday’s “Idol” 22.69 million), and “CSI: Miami” (20.11 million).

In adults 18 to 49, “Housewives” reigned supreme with a 10.1 rating, followed by “Idol” Tuesday (9.8) and “Idol” Wednesday (9.7). “CSI” was fourth with a 9.2, while “Housewives” lead-out “Grey’s Anatomy” rounded out the top five with an 8.1.

CBS and Fox tied for No.1 in the demo for the week with a 3.7, followed by ABC and NBC (both 3.2), The WB (1.4) and UPN (1.3).

In total viewers, CBS won the week with 12.51 million, followed by Fox (9.17 million), ABC (8.68 million), NBC (8.40 million), The WB (3.33 million) and UPN (3.16 million).
