The Federal Communications Commission late Wednesday unanimously agreed to give Tribune Co. a temporary waiver to keep its Waterbury, Conn., station WTXX-TV at least until April 2007. A federal judge recently ordered Tribune to sell the station because its ownership puts Tribune in conflict with the FCC’s newspaper-broadcast cross-ownership regulations. In addition to WTXX, Tribune owns WTIC-TV in Hartford, Conn., and Times Mirror Publications, which owns the Hartford Courant. It was unclear what impact the FCC’s decision would have on the court’s order.
