NBC Universal on Wednesday named Deborah Reif as president of NBC Universal Digital Media, a newly created position.

In her new role, Ms. Reif will manage NBCU’s development and delivery of content on digital platforms, including wireless and broadband. She will also focus on the company’s efforts to protect digital content, working in tandem with NBCU Executive VP and General Counsel Rick Cotton. She reports to NBCU Chairman Bob Wright.

Ms. Reif assumes her new job after having served as executive VP of financial structuring since February 2004. Before that, the 30-year veteran of NBCU parent General Electric, was CEO of Financial Guaranty Insurance Co., a bond-insurance company, and before that spent several years at GE Financial Services.

Prior to Ms. Reif’s appointment, the digital media duties were handled by NBCU Executive VP Brandon Burgess, who will now focus on global business development, the development and growth of international cable channels and new business ventures involving NBC affiliates.
