ACME Reports Widened Q1 Loss

Acme Communications, an operator of nine WB-affiliated television stations, reported a widened first-quarter loss of $4.6 million, compared with a year-earlier loss of more than $3.5 million. Revenue rose 3 percent to $11.3 million.

Much of the revenue growth was attributed to Acme’s morning news show “The Daily Buzz,” which generated higher revenues. However, those gains were offset by the show’s production costs and third-party news costs. In addition, the company was hurt by ratings weakness at several of its stations and by weak national advertising revenue.
