Kevin Brockman has been promoted to senior VP of communications for the Disney-ABC Television Group, putting him in charge of PR for a wide range of divisions including the ABC broadcast network, Touchstone Television and the Disney-ABC cable networks. His promotion was announced Friday by Disney-ABC Television Group President Anne Sweeney and Senior VP of Communications Zenia Mucha.

At the same time, Disney-ABC announced that Sue Binford is resigning her position as senior VP of corporate communications. Mr. Brockman will report to Ms. Mucha.

Ms. Mucha said in a statement, “I’ve witnessed firsthand [Mr. Brockman’s] ability to quickly assess difficult situations and handle them in an effective and professional manner. I’ve also discovered what everyone who’s met Kevin knows … he possesses great intellect, high integrity and a fabulous sense of humor.”

Besides his broadcast and cable responsibilities, Mr. Brockman will oversee corporate and entertainment communication efforts for Walt Disney Television Animation, ABC Corporate Initiatives, ABC’s owned-and-operated TV stations and ABC Radio. He will continue to oversee the ABC Network’s photography/new media and talent relations departments.

Mr. Brockman has worked for The Walt Disney Co. since 1997. He joined ABC from UPN, where he was part of the team that launched the network in January 1995. He began his career in television communications as the director of public relations, marketing and on-air promotion for Fox Television Stations Productions. He previously served as manager of public relations for Radio City Music Hall Productions in New York. Mr. Brockman began his career in entertainment publicity in the New York theater, representing Broadway and off-Broadway productions.

Ms. Binford joined Disney-ABC in June 2003 as senior VP of communications for the ABC Television Network and the ABC Broadcast Group. She was promoted in September 2004 to her current position. She previously held PR positions with CNN News Group, Turner Broadcasting System, NBC, MTV and CBS.
