“As the World Turns” and “Guiding Light” have been renewed through the 2006-07 season by CBS, the network on which they have been broadcast for 50 and 53 years, respectively, making them the longest-running dramas on TV.

CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler described the two soaps, which are produced by Procter & Gamble Productions, as “the foundation on which the No. 1 CBS Daytime lineup was built. They have been a part of the CBS family longer than any other scripted program in the history of the network and we are honored to continue our proud 54-year partnership with Procter & Gamble.”

The announcement of the renewal was made Tuesday by Ms. Tassler and Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin, executive in charge of production for Procter & Gamble Productions.
