Fox Wins Demo, CBS Wins Total Viewers for First Week of Sweeps

For the first full week of May sweeps, Fox was No. 1 in the adults 18 to 49 ratings demographic while CBS took the top spot among total viewers.

For the week ended May 8, the top-rated show in adults 18 to 49 was ABC’s Sunday night drama “Desperate Housewives,” garnering an 11.4 rating, according to Nielsen Media Research. The Wednesday edition of Fox’s “American Idol” was second with a 10.8, followed by the Tuesday “Idol” (9.9), CBS’s “CSI,” (9.0), and the “Housewives” lead-out, “Grey’s Anatomy” (8.5).

In total viewers, “CSI” was tops with 26.65 million, followed by “Housewives” (26.10 million), Wednesday’s “Idol” (25.39 million), Tuesday’s “Idol” (24.42 million) and CBS’s “CSI: Miami” (20.70 million).

Fox won the week in adults 18 to 49 with a 4.2, followed by CBS (3.9), ABC (3.7), NBC (3.4) and The WB and UPN (both 1.4).

CBS won the week in total viewers with 13.17 million, followed by Fox (10 million), ABC (9.92 million), NBC (9.74 million), The WB (3.32 million) and UPN (3.28 million).
