ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” was the highest-rated show for the week ended May 1 in the adults 18 to 49 demographic and total viewers, but that wasn’t enough to give the network an overall win in either category.

A “CSI-” and “Survivor-“driven CBS won the week in total viewers, while Fox, lead by “American Idol,” took the top spot in adults 18 to 49.

“Housewives” scored a 11.5 rating in the demo, according to Nielsen Media Research, followed by the Tuesday “Idol” (10.8), “Idol” Wednesday (10.5), “CSI” (8.3) and ABC’s “Housewives” lead-out “Grey’s Anatomy” (8.2).

In total viewers “Housewives” was tops with 25.7 million, followed by “Idol” Tuesday (25.5 million) and Wednesday (24.4 million), “CSI” (23.7 million) and “Survivor: Palau” (21.2 million).

With help from “Everybody Loves Raymond,” the Sunday TV movie “Riding the Bus With My Sister” and the series finale of “JAG,” CBS was the top network in total viewers with 13.0 million. Fox was second with 10.1 million, followed by ABC (9.3 million), NBC (9.1 million), The WB (3.7 million) and UPN (3.4 million).
