Spike TV will exclusively premiere a fourth film in the “Blade” franchise, the Viacom-owned channel announced Thursday. The Spike TV movie will be produced by New Line Television and Marvel Studios and will be scripted by David Goyer. The films are based on the a series of Marvel comics. Actor Wesley Snipes, who starred in the three theatrical films, will not reprise the title role in the Spike version.

The movie is the first scripted programming announcement by Spike TV president Doug Herzog, who took over the network earlier this year.

“The action-adventure genre is largely ignored in today’s television landscape, and we know it is something that our male viewers really want,” Mr. Herzog said. “‘Blade’ is a great movie franchise with an established brand that men already recognize and identify with.”
