Cablevision Systems on Wednesday said it named a three-person panel to review a proposal by the founding Dolan family to take the company private.

The members’ names were not released, though the company said the panel consisted only of independent board members. The panel has hired law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher as advisors.

The Dolans, who control the No. 6 cable operator, on Monday announced that they submitted a proposal to take the cable company private in a $7.9 billion offer that would also spin off all of the system’s noncable assets into a publicly traded company of which the Dolans would own 20 percent.
