Nielsen Media Research said Tuesday it has acquired AudioAudit, a Paramus, N.J.-based provider of television commercial tracking services, as Nielsen looks to bolster what it already offers in the area of broadcast verification.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Plans call for AudioAudit to be rebranded as a Nielsen service, reporting to Terrie Brennan, Nielsen’s senior VP of advertiser services and new business development.

Nielsen officials said AudioAudit’s flagship product, AdVantage, will complement Nielsen’s SIGMA verification service, which electronically detects airplay of videos distributed to TV stations, broadcast networks and cable networks in all 210 media markets. SIGMA tracks direct-response spots, commercials, infomercials, video news releases, public service announcements, promotional announcements, satellite media tours and electronic press kits.

AdVantage will take things further by tracking TV commercial schedules using audio encoding.
