ABC has ordered nine episodes of a reality series from “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell that will search for an entrepreneur with the best business idea and give that person $1 million to get the idea off the ground.

“The Million Dollar Idea” (working title), will launch a nationwide search for an entrepreneur, culminating with the presentation of

$1 million worth of business support, including cash, entrepreneurial counsel and physical resources, to the winner. Mr. Cowell conceived the series along with British businessman and reality series judge Peter Jones.

Nine finalists will receive $50,000 seed money to bring their ideas closer to reality and be critiqued by three judges on their strategies. The finalists with the three best business plans will compete in a live finale, and viewers will choose the winner.

“Idea” is from FremantleMedia North America, Syco Television and PeeDee Productions. Mr. Cowell is executive producing, along with Nigel Hall and Cecile Frot-Coutaz.
