Newspaper and television station group Belo on Friday said it agreed to pay $14.5 million cash for WUPL-TV, a UPN affiliate owned by Viacom.

The transaction, which is subject to Federal Communications Commission approval, would create a duopoly market in New Orleans for Belo, which already owns WWL-TV, the CBS affiliate and market leader.

New Orleans would be Belo’s fifth duopoly. Already, the company has duopolies in Seattle; Phoenix; Spokane, Wash.; and Tucson, Ariz.
