Former “American Morning” co-anchor Bill Hemmer, who left CNN in June after turning down reassignment to be senior White House correspondent, has been hired by Fox News Channel as a weekday anchor and correspondent, a move that came as a surprise in TV news circles.

Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes said Mr. Hemmer is “a journalist of great integrity, and his strong reporting and anchoring skills will prove beneficial to the entire Fox News team.”

Mr. Hemmer, who won an Emmy in 1996, had been with CNN for a decade. His career started as a weekend sports anchor for CBS affiliate WCPO-TV in Cincinnati. He is a graduate of Miami University in Ohio and is a native of Cincinnati.
