Viacom said Friday it has named Joseph Ianniello senior VP and treasurer of the media giant.

Mr. Ianniello, 37, was VP of corporate development before Friday’s promotion. He will report to Michael Dolan, executive VP and chief financial officer. Mr. Ianniello replaces Robert Freedline, who left the company in March.

Mr. Ianniello has been with Viacom since 2000 and was a key player in identifying potential merger targets, including the company’s acquisition of BET, Comedy Central and SportsLine. He was also a key figure in Viacom’s divestiture of Blockbuster.

Before joining Viacom, Mr. Ianniello spent three years as director of financial planning at CBS and served in Viacom’s investor relations and internal audit departments. He also spent seven years with accounting firm KPMG.
