Tyler Mathisen has been named managing editor of CNBC Business News. He will continue to appear occasionally on-air, but will stop co-anchoring the weekday “Closing Bell” report effective Friday, according to an announcement from David Friend, senior VP of CNBC Business News and Business News VP Glen Rochkind.

“The managing editor position is a critical role for our network and today’s announcement marks a significant step up for Tyler,” CNBC President Mark Hoffman said. “He is, without question, the right person for this important leadership role.”

Before Mr. Mathisen joined CNBC as an anchor in 1997, he had contributed to WCBS-TV in New York and to ABC’s “Good Morning America.” He spent 15 years at Money magazine as a writer, then senior editor and finally executive editor.

“Most CNBC viewers know Tyler as ‘Closing Bell’s’ engaging, knowledgeable co-anchor, but he is also one of the most experienced business journalists in the country,” Mr. Rochkind said. “In this new capacity, Tyler will draw on his wealth of experience to help lead our newsroom and drive our coverage.”
