ABC is giving Mr. Peterman another chance. “Seinfeld” actor John O’Hurley and “General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco will compete against one another in the 90-minute reality special “Dancing With the Stars: Dance-Off,” which is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Mr. O’Hurley and Ms. Monaco, the runner-up and winner, respectively, starred in the surprise summer series hit “Dancing With the Stars,” which paired celebrities with professional ballroom dancers and culminated with a final competition. Each week winners were decided by combining the scores given by on-air judges with viewers’ phone-in votes.

After the winner was named viewers complained to the network that the voting was unclear. At the Television Critics Association summer press tour in July, ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson was barraged with questions about the tallying of votes, with some critics suggesting the network had fixed the show to favor Ms. Monaco, the only contestant working on an ABC show.

Calling “Dance-Off” in the “spirit of good-natured competition,” ABC announced Ms. Monaco will reunite with her partner Alec Mazo and Mr. O’Hurley will once again dance with Charlotte Jorgensen, with each couple performing several styles of dance.

Judges will return to critique the performances, but only viewers’ votes will be tallied. The results will be announced in a separate half-hour telecast on Thursday, Sept. 22.

“Dancing With the Stars” is the U.S. version of the British series, “Strictly Come Dancing.” “Dancing With the Stars: Dance-Off” is produced in America by BBC Worldwide. Richard Hopkins and Conrad Green are executive producers.
