CBS is going from three episodes per week of its summer musical competition reality series “Rock Star: INXS” to two episodes, with the Monday edition moving to VH1 on Sundays.

“Rock Star” has been a modest success for CBS among young adult viewers, but not the kind of breakout hit enjoyed by Fox with “Hell’s Kitchen” or ABC with “Dancing With the Stars.”

The agreement was announced Wednesday by CBS, VH1 and Mark Burnett Productions.

The Monday half-hour edition, which features the reality aspect of the series including interaction among the show’s contestants and competition for song selection, will premiere on VH1 Sunday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m. (ET).

CBS will continue to broadcast the one-hour Tuesday performance show and the half-hour Wednesday performance/elimination episode.

As part of the agreement, VH1 will also repurpose encores of the Tuesday and Wednesday editions beginning Saturday, Aug. 13.

Sources say “Rock Star’s” season finale will air on CBS Tuesday, Sept. 20.

“Rock Star” is produced by Mark Burnett Productions. Mark Burnett, David Goffin, (“American Idol”) Lisa Hennessy (“Eco-Challenge”) and INXS managers David Edwards and Michael Murchison are executive producers. Conrad Riggs is co-executive producer.
