Cable operator Mediacom Communications announced Wednesday that it swung to a loss in the second quarter amid higher expenses related to the deployment of advanced cable set-top boxes.
The Middletown, N.Y.-based company reported a loss of nearly $6 million, compared with a profit of $30.1 million a year ago. Revenue rose nearly 4 percent to $277.3 million.
The results came as Mediacom’s subscription numbers beat several analysts’ projections. The company lost 15,000 basic-cable subscribers, but gained 25,000 digital-cable subs and added 19,000 high-speed data subscribers.
