Oscar winner Charlize Theron has agreed to appear in a five-episode arc on Fox’s single-camera comedy “Arrested Development.”

Ms. Theron, who begins shooting the series this week, plays a British woman who ends up dating the show’s central character, Michael Bluth, played by Jason Bateman. Ms. Theron is not the first big-name star to appear on the series. Ben Stiller, Liza Minnelli, Heather Graham, Zack Braff and Julia Louis-Dreyfus have all guest-starred on “Arrested.”

Ms. Theron’s first episode is scheduled to air Monday, Sept. 26. “Arrested,” which won an Emmy for outstanding comedy series in 2004 but has struggled in the ratings, begins its third season Sept. 19.

“Arrested” is produced by Imagine Television and 20th Century Fox Television. Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, David Nevins and Mitchell Hurwitz are executive producers.
