The Writers Guild of America-West has fired executive director John McLean and appointed David Young, the guild’s top campaign organizer, as interim executive director.

The change comes in the wake of Patric Verrone’s election to president of the guild last week. Mr. Young has led the guild’s campaign to organize reality TV writers.

“We ran on a platform of organizing and expanding our membership and reaching out to find ways to work with our sister guilds,” Mr. Verrone said. “David’s appointment as our interim executive director underscores this guild’s commitment to fulfill our pledge to the membership. He has the full confidence of the board to steer this union while a search is conducted to choose a new executive director.”
