ABC’s surprise summer reality hit “Dancing With the Stars” will return for a second cycle beginning Thursday, Jan. 5, at 8 p.m. (ET), replacing the action drama “Alias.”

ABC announced in a release Friday that “Alias” will take a broadcast hiatus due to series regular Jennifer Garner’s maternity leave. “Alias” is scheduled to return to the network’s lineup with original episodes in the spring.

The lineup of celebrities who will participate in the ballroom dance competition has yet to be announced. A weekly results show will air in the days following the Thursday broadcast. The day and time of that broadcast will be announced at a later date.

“Dancing With the Stars” is the U.S. version of the BBC series “Strictly Come Dancing.” The ABC version is produced in the United States by BBC Worldwide. Richard Hopkins and Conrad Green are executive producers.
