‘NBC Nightly News’ Big 3’s Most Seen

Network news stalwart “NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams” remained the most watched of the broadcast networks’ flagship newscasts in the third quarter, drawing an average of 8.6 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The third-quarter ratings performance extended “Nightly’s” run in first place to 24 consecutive quarters, although it posted a year-to-year dip of 5 percent. ABC’s “World News Tonight” was second, averaging 8.1 million viewers, which was off 1 percent year to year. “CBS Evening News” averaged 6.6 million, down 1 percent.

However, in the core news demographic, 25- to 54-year-old viewers, ABC’s “World News” posted a 2.4 rating (up 4 percent), edging past “Nightly News'” 2.3 rating (down 5 percent). “Evening News” got a 1.7 rating in the demo (down 6 percent).
