Telemundo announced Wednesday the Federal Communications Commission has approved a channel exchange in Phoenix that will provide the network with a full-power signal in the market.
Telemundo will exchange signals with Daystar, which currently offers low-power service in Phoenix and a full-power station in Holbrook, Ariz.
Upon formal completion of the exchange by the FCC, Telemundo’s Phoenix station, KDRX-TV, will be available on cable’s basic tier. The swap will also improve the channel’s over-the-air signal.
Phoenix, one of the largest Spanish-language markets, has long been dominated by Univision station KTVW-TV, with Telemundo a perennial challenger.
