Warner offers VOD Exclusives

In an effort to build its video-on-demand business, Warner Home Video plans to create bonus extras that are exclusive to its on-demand and pay-per-view movies, starting with the December releases of hits “Batman Begins” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

The studio has crafted 15-minute features for each film that provide details on behind-the-scenes aspects of the movies, with instant windows of information that pop up on the screen.

The goal is to create an additional reason to buy the movie on-demand by providing content that is unique to the VOD/PPV movie and that can’t be seen on the DVD, said Michele Edelman, VP of marketing for Warner Home Video On Demand.

“My goal is not to cannibalize the DVD business but to build a complementary business,” Ms. Edelman said. She added that Warner Home Video will offer similar unique content for all on-demand movies going forward. For now, plans are to limit the bonus extras to movie content on VOD, not television content.
