Hoping to limit the number of U.S. households stranded without the ability to receive over-the-air television signals after the industry transition to digital TV, the Federal Communications Commission adopted rules Thursday requiring manufacturers to include digital tuners by March 1, 2007, in all TV sets sold in the United States.

Under the agency’s previous rules, the digital tuner deadline for sets 13 inches and larger was July 1, 2007. The new rule requires TV sets of all sizes to meet the March 1 deadline.
