A week after CBS Sports President Sean McManus also assumed control of CBS News from Andrew Heyward, Marcy McGinnis, the chief of news gathering for eight years, announced to staffers that she will be leaving at the end of this week.

In an internal e-mail Tuesday the exiting senior VP said, “It’s time for a changing of the guard” at the news division. She has worked for CBS News since graduating from college 35 years ago and signing on as a secretary in the unit covering special events.

She said Mr. McManus had told her at the outset that he felt it important that he name his own No. 2 news executive.

There have been no indications about who might succeed Ms. McGinnis, who wrote, “Searching for a new path … is interesting and adventurous, fun and exotic, stimulating and challenging.”
