After cordial confirmation hearings Tuesday for Federal Communications Commission nominees Deborah Taylor Tate and Michael Copps, Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens said the two could receive Senate approval before Christmas.

“We’re going to try to move the nominations out of committee as rapidly as possible,” assuming no unforeseen objections are raised soon, said Sen. Stevens, R-Alaska.

Ms. Tate, a director of the Tennessee Regulatory Authority, has been nominated for a Republican seat at the agency. Mr. Copps, a current Democratic FCC commissioner, was nominated for a new term.
