E! Red Carpet Ratings Flat

E!’s high-profile debut of host Ryan Seacrest didn’t much sway the network’s Golden Globes red carpet ratings.

The entertainment channel’s pre-show was down 4 percent among total viewers and up 3 percent among 18 to 49, compared with last year’s Globes coverage hosted by Star Jones, according to Nielsen Media Research. The network did make real gains among younger viewers, however: It was up 15 percent among 18 to 34.

The actual awards show, however, was up about 12 percent.

An E! spokesperson pointed out the awards took place on a Monday night — rather than Sunday, as happened last year — reducing the opportunity for viewers to catch pre-awards coverage.

The Golden Globes marked Mr. Seacrest’s first appearance as a member of the E! Networks staff. Mr. Seacrest recently signed a three-year deal to lead the red carpet team, co-anchor E! News and develop new shows for the network.
