EchoStar Yanks Lifetime Off Its System

Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network went dark Sunday on EchoStar Communication’s Dish Network after the satellite operator and Lifetime Television failed to reach a new carriage agreement.

Though both sides said they are working toward a resolution, the two cable channels were still not part of the satellite operator’s lineup Tuesday.

According to the Associated Press, EchoStar pulled the channels off its system after the satellite provider claimed that Lifetime requested a rate hike of more than 70 percent.

Lifetime officials have countered that such claims are “grossly exaggerated” and pointed out that EchoStar refused to extend the previous contract during the negotiation period, opting instead to yank the channels off its system.
