David Gyngell has been named chief operating officer for Granada America. In addition to running the businesses on both the East and West coasts of the U.S., Mr. Gyngell will oversee Granada Australia.

His appointment follows Paul Jackson’s move back to the United Kingdom to take up the position of director of entertainment and comedy at ITV’s Network Centre in London.

Mr. Gyngell will be responsible for the acquisition, development and production of scripted series, non-scripted series and TV movies for U.S. cable and broadcast networks. He’ll be based in Los Angeles.

Most recently the CEO of Nine Network in Australia, the country’s top broadcast network, Mr. Gyngell was executive director for Publishing and Broadcasting Limited, an Australian media and entertainment group.

Granada America produces a number of unscripted programs, including Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” MTV’s “Room Raiders,” CBS’s upcoming “Gameshow Marathon” and A&E’s “Dallas SWAT.”
