Insight Communications has announced plans to launch a family-friendly tier of programming in its service areas this summer.

Insight said its digital package will cost $13 a month for 15 channels. The channel line-up: Home & Garden Television; Food Network; DIY Network; C-SPAN 2; CNBC; Headline News; The History Channel; The Weather Channel; Discovery Kids; Discovery Science; Nick Games & Sports; The Disney Channel; Toon Disney; PBS Kids Sprout and Trinity Broadcasting Network.

The other cable companies that have announced family-friendly tiers are Time Warner Cable, Comcast and Cox Communications. The cable TV industry is hoping that offering the tiers will take some of the steam out of the campaign to address concerns about off-color programming on cable with legislation. The Senate Commerce Committee plans to hold indecency hearings Thursday.
