Lee Named Chairman of BET

BET announced Tuesday that CEO Debra Lee has been named chairman of the network. She will replace founder Robert Johnson, who has been with the network for 25 years.

Ms. Lee started at BET in 1986 as VP and general counsel before being elevated to president and chief operating officer in 1996 and president and CEO in June 2005. She will retain the CEO title.

BET is a unit of Viacom.
