Showtime announced it has greenlighted four new series at the Television Critics Association press tour Thursday, including a sketch comedy show starring Damon Wayans.
Described as “‘In Living Color’ on steroids,'” “Damon Wayans’ The Underground” is a 10-episode half-hour series that will premiere on Showtime this fall.
The premium cable network also greenlighted a six-episode adaptation of the Chicago Public Radio program “This American Life” hosted by Ira Glass.
Also coming to the network, “Match Point” star Jonathan Rhys-Meyers will star in a new historical dramatic series, “The Tudors,” about the early years of King Henry VIII. Ten episodes have been ordered for a 2007 debut, with “Desperate Housewives” director Charles McDougall directing the first two episodes.
Previously announced serial killer pilot “Dexter” has also been picked up for 12 episodes.
