Greg Stone’s plan to retire March 3 from his position as VP and general manager of Cox Television-owned WSB-TV in Atlanta has triggered a round of changes, announced Thursday, among the group’s station executives.

Bill Hoffman, who has been VP and general manager of Cox’s WFTV and WRDQ-TV in Orlando since 2002, will succeed Mr. Stone at WSB. Shawn Bartelt, director of sales for Cox’s WSOC-TV and WAXN-TV in Charlotte, N.C., since joining the group in 2000, will succeed Mr. Hoffman at WFTV and WRDQ. Mr. Hoffman and Ms. Bartelt will report to Cox Television VP Bruce Baker.

Mr. Stone has run WSB, one of the strongest ABC affiliates in the country, since 1990. Stone’s career in broadcasting started in 1963, when he joined Cox at WSOC Radio in Charlotte.

“He embodies the best of broadcasting,” Cox Television President Andy Fisher said in the announcement.
