CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus announced Monday that Meg Oliver is the new anchor of the network’s overnight newscast, “Up to the Minute.” She succeeds Melissa McDermott.

Ms. Oliver has served as a Washington-based freelance correspondent for CBS NewsPath since May 2005, covering such stories as the nomination of Chief Justice John Roberts, President Bush’s 2006 State of the Union address and the congressional hearings on the federal response to Hurricane Katrina.

Prior to that, Ms. Oliver was the weeknight anchor for KGPE-TV in Fresno, Calif., for three years. An eight-time News Emmy winner, Ms. Oliver began her journalism career as a reporter and anchor at KCFW-TV in Kalispell, Mont., in 1993.
