PBS talk show host and producer Charlie Rose underwent surgery Wednesday in Paris to repair a heart valve after experiencing shortness of breath while on assignment last week in Syria.

On advice from his cardiologist in New York, Mr. Rose flew to Paris last Friday, where he was examined by cardiologists at The Georges-Pompidou European Hospital, spokesman Howard Rubenstein said in a statement. Based on their evaluation, Mr. Rose entered the hospital Saturday. The surgical team was led by Alain Carpentier, a mitral valve surgeon and chairman of the hospital’s cardiovascular surgery department.

Mr. Rose will recuperate in Paris for the next week before returning to New York, the statement reported, with doctors expecting him to be back at work by the end of April. In the interim, guest hosts selected by his staff will fill in for Mr. Rose.
