HBO Films President Colin Callender has been named the 2006 recipient of the Humanitas Prize’s Kieser Award, which honors those in the entertainment industry whose work promotes humanitarian issues.

Humanitas Prize President Frank Desiderio in the announcement Monday cited Mr. Callender’s commitment to tackling sophisticated and significant stories and promoting “a greater appreciation for the dignity of each member of the human family.”

During Mr. Callender’s tenure, HBO Films has received 9 Humanitas Prizes, 39 Emmys, 18 Golden Globes and four Peabody Awards and has produced such projects as the HBO miniseries “Empire Falls” and the Oscar-nominated film “Yesterday.”

The Kieser Award was named for the late Ellwood “Bud” Kieser, a producer and priest who founded the Humanitas Prize. The awards will be presented during the annual Humanitas Prize luncheon June 28.

The Humanitas Prize feature film and television finalists will be announced June 6.
