MTV has renewed “Laguna Beach” spinoff “The Hills” for a second season, the network announced Monday. The series has averaged 2.4 million viewers (1.6 million among 18 to 49), about double MTV’s 1.2 million third-quarter average from last year.

“‘The Hills’ took our audience on an exciting ride told through the eyes of four young ladies trying to survive in L.A.,” said Lois Curren, executive VP of series entertainment and programming for MTV. “The series really connected with our viewers, so it was an easy decision to bring it back for another season and we are delighted to continue working with the cast as we showcase the next stage of all their lives.”
