The premiere of USA Network’s new show, “Psych,” posted the highest ratings among new scripted series on basic cable this year, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The quirky detective drama drew 6.1 million viewers in its Friday 10 p.m. (ET) slot. The show’s lead-in, the season five debut of “Monk,” also fared well, averaging 5.1 million viewers.

If its ratings numbers stay strong, “Psych” will give USA another scripted hit drama, in addition to “Monk,” “The 4400” and “The Dead Zone.”
