CNN has named Ed Litvak executive producer of the “American Morning” program. He has spent the past several months running the show.

Mr. Litvak has been a supervising producer for the No. 2-rated news network’s prime-time programming since he arrived from NBC News in January 2004. Kim Bondy, who helped run “American Morning” as CNN’s VP of morning programming, has been on leave of absence since March.

CNN, which announced Mr. Litvak’s promotion Wednesday, said earlier this week that “American Morning” will be cut to three hours from four beginning in mid-October.

At NBC, Mr. Litvak had risen from assignment editor to supervising producer of the weekend editions of the “Today” morning show.
