CBS edged out ABC to become the No. 1 network in adults 18 to 49 for the week ended Sept. 17, the week prior to the beginning of the 2006-07 season. But NBC took the honor of having the top program in adults 18 to 49: its Sunday night telecast of the NFL football game between the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys.

NBC scored a 7.4 rating in adults 18 to 49 with Sunday night football, a number that includes live viewing and same-day viewing via digital video recorders, according to Nielsen Media Research. The Thursday season premiere of CBS’s “Survivor: Cook Islands” was second with a 6.5, while an original episode of Fox’s Tuesday drama “House” was third with a 5.9. ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” results show Tuesday scored a 5.7, with two repeat episodes of “CSI” on Thursday tying for fifth place, both with a 4.8.

CBS was tops for the week with a 3.1, followed by ABC with a 3.0, NBC and Fox with a 2.8, Univision (1.5), The WB (0.6), Telemundo (0.4) and UPN (0.3).
