NBC was the top-rated network Monday in adults 18 to 49, with its new superhero drama “Heroes” leaping tall buildings to take the title of highest-rated program for the night.

At 9 p.m. (ET), “Heroes” scored a 5.9 preliminary national rating in adults 18 to 49, a number that includes live viewing plus same-day viewing via digital video recorders, according to Nielsen Media Research. “Heroes” was up 28 percent from the year-ago time period premiere of “Las Vegas,” and grew on the half-hour from a 5.6 to a 6.3.

That outperformed its closest time-period competition, the season premiere of comedy “Two and a Half Men” and an original episode of “The New Adventures of Old Christine” on CBS. “Men” scored a 5.0 in adults 18 to 49 at 9 p.m., even with its season premiere in September 2005. “Christine” scored a 4.0 rating, down 5 percent from its season premiere last week. ABC’s reality offering “Wife Swap” scored a 3.6 in adults 18 to 49 in the time period, while Fox’s drama “Vanished” garnered a 2.0.

On The CW at 9 p.m., the series premiere of the fugitive family drama “Runaway” scored a 0.7 in adults 18 to 49, down 36 percent from The WB’s premiere of “Just Legal” in the time period last September and down 61 percent from UPN’s “Girlfriends” and “Half & Half” premiere performance in the time period last season.

“Runaway” did not fare much better in The CW’s targeted adults 18 to 34 demographic. The drama scored a 0.9 in adults 18 to 34, down 18 percent from The WB’s year-ago number and down 55 percent from UPN’s year-ago rating.

NBC also took first place at 8 p.m. with “Deal or No Deal,” which scored a 3.8 in adults 18 to 49, down 24 percent from its two-hour season premiere last week. Fox was second at 8 p.m. with “Prison Break” (3.4), followed by CBS’s comedy block featuring “The Class” (2.8) and “How I Met Your Mother (3.5). “Class” was down 22 percent from its series debut last week. ABC scored a 3.0 in the time period with its first hour of “Wife Swap,” while The CW scored a 1.6 in adults 18 to 49 with the 11th-season premiere of “7th Heaven,” down 6 percent from its year-ago premiere performance. In adults 18 to 34, “Heaven” garnered a 1.8, down 5 percent from its premiere in 2005.

At 10 p.m. CBS had Monday’s second-highest-rated program in adults 18 to 49, “CSI: Miami” (5.6). “Miami” was down 3 percent from its season premiere last week. The second episode of NBC’s TV series-in-a-series drama “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” scored a 4.4, down 30 percent from the last half-hour of “Heroes” and down 12 percent from its premiere last week. “Studio 60” also declined by the half-hour from a 4.7 to a 4.2. ABC was third at 10 p.m. with a repeat of its new one-hour “Men in Trees” (1.6).
